2026 Toyota Hilux Kenya: Price, Performance, Specs & Review
Toyota has unveiled the ninth generation of the Hilux with multiple powertrain options, including the first-ever battery electric variant. The new generation comes 10 years after the 8th-gen units made their debut in the market.
In Kenya, the Hilux is one of the most sought-after pick trucks and is loved by drivers due to its reliability, comfortable cabin, and towing and hauling capabilities.
The Toyota Hilux competes with the Ford Ranger, VW Amarok, GWM P-500, BYD Shark 6, Mitsubishi Triton, and Kia Tasman.

Engine and Performance
Under the hood, the 2026 Hilux comes with engine options. There is the 2.8 L 1GD-FTV turbodiesel engine, the 2.7 L 2TR-FE I4 petrol engine, a hydrogen fuel cell version, and the Battery Electric (BEV), which features a 59.2 kWh lithium-ion battery with dual electric motors.
The BEV variant delivers 169 horsepower from a dual-motor system and a claimed range of 315 km.
The petrol and diesel-powered engines are mated to either a 6-speed manual or automatic transmission.
Interior Features and Comfort
Stepping inside the new Hilux, the cabin borrows inspiration from the Toyota Land Cruiser and delivers a higher sense of quality, comfort, and refinement.
The cabin features a new, clean, horizontal design that enhances visibility and creates a wider, more spacious feel.
Toyota has developed new front and rear seats with the driver’s seat offering up to 8-way power adjustment with lumbar support adjustment and leather-accented upholstery, depending on the trim level.
Other features include a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a large multimedia touchscreen, MyToyota App Integration, panoramic view, and multi-terrain monitors that provide clear visual support for parking, maneuvering, and challenging terrain.
Exterior Design
The 2026 Hilux has been updated and now features an upright grille, slim LED headlights, and a strong central horizontal bar bearing the TOYOTA name. It has also received new dimensions, giving a more athletic posture. The rear of the 2026 Hilux boasts updated LED taillights with a C-signature design.
The double cab and single cab will be the only body styles available as Toyota discontinued the extended cab configuration.
Safety Features
The 2026 Hilux features the latest Toyota Safety Sense driver-assistance technology suite. This includes; pre-collision safety autonomous emergency braking system, active cruise control, lane departure alert, lane trace assist, road sign assistant, and auto high beam.
Other standard safety features include blind spot monitor, rear cross traffic alert, and, on pick-up grades, front and rear parking sensors.
